Utah State Sweeps Team Titles at Paul Short RunPublished by
Utah State First to Sweep Lehigh Paul Short Run Team Titles Since at Least 2009By Adam Kopet Utah State became the first team to sweep the Lehigh Paul Short Run team titles for at least eight years. In the men's race, the Aggies were led by the first place finish of senior Dillon Maggard. Utah State scored 119 points, well ahead of Georgetown, which scored 167 points. Division 2 Adams State finished third with 179 points. Utah State was well back at the mile with Cornell easily the top team at the mile, but the Aggies used a second half push to come away with the team title. Cornell went on to fade to 12th in the team standings. Maggard was near the front in 11th at the mile, but came away with a four-second victory in 23:27 for 8k over Liberty junior Azaria Kirwa. Georgetown junior Jonathan Green was third in 23:37. Utah State also had the top finisher in the women's race. Junior Alyssa Snyder won by two seconds over Villanova junior Nicole Hutchinson in 19:48 for 6k. This is the second win of the season for the Montana State transfer after winning the BYU Autumn Classic. Georgia sophomore Jessica Drop was third in 19:52, just ahead of Queen's University sophomore Branna MacDougall in an identical time. With five runners in the top-23, Utah State won the team title with 72 points. Villanova was second with 115 points. Georgia was third with 121 points. Cornell fell to sixth after leading the race handily at the mile. |
